Construction jobs are on the rise

Career Education Colleges and Universities (CECU) recently posted an article highlighting the growing demand for skilled construction workers.

According to data CECU reviewed from the U.S. Census Bureau, construction spending in the U.S. for January to April 2016 came in at $334.8 billion – up almost 9% compared to the same period last year. Plus, says CECU, the BLS expects a 13% growth in the construction sector from 2014 to 2024, resulting in 180,100 new jobs.

While the number of construction projects and jobs is increasing across the country, there is – unfortunately – a shortage of workers. Here’s a snippet from CECU’s post:

“The thing we’re seeing and we’re hearing in the field is there’s just not enough qualified people at all,” Jay McCanless, a homebuilding analyst with Sterne Agee CRT in Nashville, Tennessee, told Bloomberg.  In fact, industry officials previously said that the construction industry “would be sizzling if not for a critical shortage of workers.”

With construction projects on the rise, the demand for electricians, HVACR technicians and construction managers will likely grow, making construction industry-related careers an attractive choice for entry-level job seekers.
