HVAC Students Earn Scholarships
Most students don’t realize that there is a lot of scholarship money out there to help them with tuition expenses,” says Reneisha Wilkes, Student Resource Coordinator for San Joaquin Valley College (SJVC) in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. She has made it a big part of her job to get the word out.
On Wednesday, November 7th four of SJVC’s Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) students were told they won scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $2,000 each from the Rees Scholarship Foundation. Mario Cedano, Jeremy Miller, John Morris and Jamie Barela were among fourteen HVAC students whom Reneisha encouraged to submit an application, and who met personal and professional requirements, such as community volunteerism, commitment to the HVAC industry and willingness to help others consider this career choice.
“I was really happy to see that I was a recipient and this money will help me out a great deal,” says HVAC student, Mario Cedano. Scholarship awards will continue to be made throughout the next several months and Reneisha Wilkes will be happy to pass along the good news to SJVC recipients.
There are still 58 HVAC scholarships totaling about $300,000. available to students who qualify. “I help as many students as possible learn of the scholarship opportunities available to them,” says Wilkes.
In the last 18-months she has helped over 140 SJVC students receive $293,000. in awards that range from $200 to fully paid tuition. Each award is applied directly to the student recipient’s student loan, “which relieves a little of their financial burden,” says Wilkes.
Students interested in applying for various scholarships appropriate to their career program should contact their Student Resource Coordinator on campus for information and assistance.
