San Joaquin Valley College Campus in Lancaster Welcomes New Campus Director, Ronald Felts

July 11, 2024

The San Joaquin Valley College (SJVC) campus in Lancaster is proud to announce the appointment of Ronald Felts as the new Campus Director. With a distinguished career in education spanning over three decades, Felts brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to student success and community engagement.

Felts’ journey in education began in 1990 as a teacher for a combined class of 2nd – 6th grade children. Over the next ten years, he honed his skills in the classroom before transitioning to the University of Phoenix, where he served as an academic counselor for eight years. In 2008, Felts became the Dean of Students at the University of Antelope Valley.

His experience in various educational roles has uniquely prepared him for his new position at SJVC. “My experiences have allowed me to see education from multiple perspectives. I know what teachers experience daily, the obstacles students face, and how each faculty and staff member play a vital role in student success,” Felts said. “I was inspired to become an educator because as a child my teachers had such a large impact on my life. I know that education provides opportunities for growth.”

At the SJVC Lancaster campus in California’s Antelope Valley, Felts is eager to join a dedicated team committed to student success. “What excites me the most is that I am joining a great staff at the SJVC Lancaster campus that are committed to the success of our students. I also get to serve students in the community where I raised my children, and now my grandchildren,” he added.

Felts’ vision for the SJVC Lancaster campus includes ensuring that staff have the necessary resources to prepare students for their chosen careers. He plans to support the personal and professional growth of students, staff, and faculty by listening to their needs and making them aware of available resources.

“It is vital that students develop critical thinking skills in their personal and professional lives. I encourage my team to not only come to me with questions, but to come up with answers as well. The best solutions usually come from the individuals most impacted by them,” Felts stated, reflecting on his educational philosophy.

Felts plans to implement several initiatives to enhance the educational experience at SJVC, including Student Success Workshops focusing on test-taking, study skills, note-taking, and time management. He is also exploring ways for students to engage the community through initiatives like campus donation drives.

Having lived and worked in the Antelope Valley since 1990, Felts has a deep understanding of the community’s needs. “Working and raising a family in the Antelope Valley has allowed me to identify the needs of the students and the opportunities for their growth and success. I know that providing quality education will help improve the lives of the students and the community,” he said.

Felts believes that SJVC plays a crucial role in the broader Antelope Valley community by providing educational programs that can lead to successful careers. “The Lancaster campus has a positive reputation for providing educational programs that lead to students starting their chosen careers. I plan on continuing to share with the community our mission and opportunities for student success,” he added.

The SJVC Lancaster campus offers career-focused programs in Clinical Medical Assisting, Pharmacy Technology, Medical Office Administration, Business Office Administration, and Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC-R). With the leadership of Ronald Felts, the SJVC Lancaster campus is poised to continue its tradition of excellence in education and community service.
