SJVC Campuses Spread Joy with Holiday Community Activities
The holiday season is a time for coming together, spreading joy, and extending a helping hand to those in need. At San Joaquin Valley College (SJVC), our campuses throughout California embraced the spirit of giving by organizing a series of positive community activities. Students, faculty, and staff united to volunteer and support local non-profit organizations, leaving a lasting impact on the communities we serve. Here’s a glimpse into the community engagement that took place over the holidays.
SJVC Hesperia organized a Thanksgiving Food Drive competition in November to support the domestic violence shelter “A Better Way.” The campus community rallied together to collect food items, creating a friendly competition to see who could contribute the most. This initiative not only provided essential resources for those in need but also highlighted SJVC Hesperia’s commitment to addressing critical issues within the community.
On Thanksgiving Day, SJVC Visalia took part in the “Race Against Hunger,” the largest 5K in the Central Valley benefiting Visalia Emergency Aid Council (VEAC). Our students, faculty, and staff demonstrated their commitment to addressing hunger in the community by participating in this impactful event. SJVC Visalia’s involvement in the race reflects our dedication to making a positive difference in the lives of those facing food insecurity.
The Medical Assisting (MA) Club at SJVC Bakersfield played Santa Claus this holiday season by hosting a Toy Drive from Dec. 4-21. The generosity of our campus community shone through as toys were collected to bring smiles to the faces of children in need. SJVC Bakersfield’s MA Club exemplifies the true spirit of the season by fostering joy and creating memorable experiences for local children during the holidays.
On Dec. 21, SJVC Hesperia hosted a Pet Drive to benefit the furry friends at the Apple Valley Animal Shelter. Students, faculty, and staff joined forces to collect essential items for the shelter, ensuring that our four-legged companions experienced warmth and care during the holiday season. This initiative showcases SJVC Hesperia’s commitment not only to education but also to the well-being of the entire community, including our beloved pets.
SJVC is dedicated to making a positive impact not just on our students, but also the communities we serve. The collective efforts of our students, faculty, and staff showcase the power of coming together to support local causes. Moving forward, let’s carry the spirit of giving back into the new year, knowing that every act of kindness contributes to building stronger, more compassionate communities.
