Student Fashion Show Entertain and Educates

About a dozen business student models used the catwalk to teach over a hundred Rancho Cucamonga students how to dress for that all-important job interview.

“We deliberately included some What not to Wear examples to show students inappropriate interview attire,” says Chris Hooton, Career Services Manager.

The 90-minute show is an annual event held this year at the North Hills Church on Aug. 1st. The panel of four judges included Brenda Medina, Business instructor, Jeannette Drake, Career Services Advisor, Diana Glance, Business instructor and Claudia Normine, G.E. instructor.

Business students who are Enactus members developed and promoted the fashion show during which Career Services conducted a presentation on proper business attire.

“The fashion show was a good teaching tool for our students,” says Mr. Hooton. “We also engaged the entire audience by asking them to hold up signs 1-10 to rate appropriate outfits coming down the runway.”

Clothing for the fashion show came from the Career Services ‘closet’ and from donations for the event. Some of the student models brought their own clothes to wear as good examples of business attire.

Some of the student models and MCs were: Kevin Santos, KR Banaag, Alice Garcia, Andrea Adams, Kenneth Perry, Elizabeth Morales, Aaron Lewis, Indi Hurtado, Jaime Estrella, Giselle Pena, Alejandra Garcia, Armando Cespedes, Kimberly Mora, Taariq Raffy and Alina Miranda.

“Three students, Elizabeth Morales, Giselle Pena and Alina Hernandez-Miranda, entertained the crowd with a vocal competition, as they gave their best American Idol performances – and the models time to make wardrobe changes,” says Mr. Hooton. Elizabeth Morales won and was awarded a gift card.

Like any big production, mishaps can occur. The PowerPoint show momentarily dropped power and Mr. Hooton had to “kill time by telling some bad jokes,” he laughs.

Students didn’t seem to mind and left the event with a better understanding and picture of what they might wear once they are out in the professional world.
