Students help “Stuff the Bus” to support the Delano community
It takes a lot to be an achiever, but SJVC’s “elite achievers” always go the extra mile, especially when it comes to supporting the community.
That is why the student Elite Achiever’s Club at SJVC’s Delano campus decided to support the “Stuff the Bus” community initiative by donating school supplies and hosting a supply drive.
As part of the initiative, members from the community were encouraged to donate school supplies to benefit Morning Side, Princeton and Terrace Elementary Schools from July 8 until Aug. 9, 2019.
All the supplies, which included backpacks, notebooks, folders and other classroom essentials, were donated to the more than 1,500 children in need at these Delano elementary schools.
Business Administration instructor Yesmin Ochoa dropped off the supplies with help from the students. The items were donated with the office of Assembly Member Rudy Salas, representing the 32nd district encompassing Kings County and parts of Kern County.
“Our club members are always looking to give back to the community,” Yesmin says. “After receiving a flyer for the ‘Stuff the Bus’ event, they jumped on board right away and got the whole campus involved.”
SJVC is proud to support the Delano community and honored to have students take part in such a wonderful cause.
“Family is very important to our students as many of them have children, so they were more than willing to donate for our children of Delano,” adds Yesmin.
