When you enroll in any of SJVC’s programs, a Career Services Advisor is assigned to you at no additional charge. You will work with this advisor to define and work toward your goals throughout your program, and even after you graduate.
Our Career Services Advisors also build relationships with employer partners, coordinate externships, and identify employment opportunities for our students and graduates. They are a bridge helping to connect you to your vision of the future.

Create job application materials that stand out. Learn about different types of resumes, what to include in each section, how to write a cover letter that gets you noticed, and more.
Get hands-on resume reviews, feedback, and support that help you showcase your education, experience, and skills and land the interview.
INTERVIEW PREPARATION
Once you land an interview, nail it with help from your Career Services Advisor. Learn how to research a company and interviewer, decide which questions to ask (and which to avoid), and how best to answer questions that you’ll be likely to get.
Practice your skills with mock interviews, and get helpful feedback to boost your confidence. Your Career Services Advisor can even help coordinate mock interviews with SJVC employer partners so you can get feedback from real, working professionals and hiring managers.
EXTERN-TO-HIRE OPPORTUNITIES
SJVC prioritizes hands-on learning and strives to incorporate it in our curriculum. One way we do this is through the externships and clinical training that are part of many of our programs.
These opportunities allow you to experience the workplace firsthand, use your knowledge and skills in a real-world context, work with professionals in your field, and in some cases, help your community by providing complimentary care to underserved populations.
Successful completion of externships and clinical training can sometimes lead to full-time employment after graduation.
CAREER FAIRS AND SPECIAL EVENTS
Careers Services hosts a variety of career fairs and special events for prospective and current students to learn about SJVC programs and the College’s employer partnerships.
These campus events are also a great way to form connections with other students and employers — just another way SJVC works to help students and alumni be successful in their chosen career.
