Medical assistants are healthcare professionals who work with physicians and other medical staff in doctor’s offices, hospitals, or outpatient facilities. Although their role can vary by location, all medical assistants perform both administrative and clinical tasks.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, some of their day-to-day responsibilities may include:[1]
- Record patient history and personal information
- Measure vital signs, such as blood pressure
- Help physicians with patient examinations
- Give patients injections or medications as directed by physicians and as permitted by state law

- Enter patient information into medical records
